I offer a full proofreading service for any project in UK English, large or small, from CVs to books. First impressions are critical, and a badly-presented document will never look good even if the content is wonderful!

What is proofreading?

I will check for basic spelling, grammatical and punctuation mistakes, and make suggestions for improvements to the layout of your document.

My qualifications

I hold a distinction in Proofreading from the Publishing Training Centre in London. I am also educated to postgraduate standard and have a broad general knowledge. I am convinced, however, that my real qualifications are genetic: I have a copy of the Kama Sutra in which my late father corrected all the punctuation!! I have worked with many clients, ranging from community groups and small businesses to PhD students and academic publishers.

What format should the document be in?

Your document can be on good old-fashioned paper, in which case corrections will be marked and you'll make the changes. I can work with documents in Microsoft Word (including Word for Mac) and highlight the changes so that you can decide whether to accept them or not. I can potentially work with documents in other PC-based progammmes. I can also convert paper documents into Word documents.

How much will it cost?

Proofreading is costed on an hourly basis rather than by number of words. This is because some documents will have more mistakes than others. For longer documents I can give an estimate of final cost; short documents will be subject to a minimum charge. For current rates please email me the details of your document or project.
